Content Filter Lookup

Go to Policies > Categories > Content Filter Lookup to determine the categories to which a URL belongs.

  1. In the Lookup URL/FQDN: enter the URL you want to look up.

  2. Click Lookup.

The results of your lookup will be display.

Test Content Filtering

Go to Policies > Categories > Test Filtering to evaluate a domain. Follow these steps:

  1. In the Lookup URL/FQDN: field, enter the URL/FQDN of the site you want to test.

  2. In the Client IP Address: field enter the IP address of the connecting client.

  3. Click Test and the result of the evaluation will be shown. The result will show the policy action of Allowed or Blocked as well as the categorization of the URL/FQDN.

Content Filter Feedback

Use Content Filter Feedback to provide feedback on a particular URL that you think should be recategorized. To do this:

  1. Go to Policies > Categories > Content Filter Feedback.

  2. In the URL: field, type the URL you wish to provide feedback on.

  3. From the Category 1, 2 and 3 drop-down menus, select up to three categories you think the URL belongs to.

  4. Click Submit.

Your request to recategorize will be sent for review.

Custom Categories

Custom categories are categories that you can define for your WebTitan Cloud, as opposed to system categories that are defined in the central web categories database and imported into WebTitan Cloud on a regular basis.

Go to Policies > Categories > Custom Categories to view custom categories that already exist. Follow the steps below to add, edit or delete custom categories. You can add up to eight custom categories.

Add or edit a Custom Category

  1. Click Add... and the Add/Edit Custom Category window displays:

  2. Using the table below as a reference, complete each of the fields.

  3. Click Done.

Delete a Custom Category

  • Click the delete icon under the Options column to the right of the custom policy you want to delete.

Field

Description

Category name:

Name of this custom category.

Initial Policy State:

The initial state for this category in a policy, where red is blocked and green is allowed .

Description:

Brief description of the category.

URL:

Enter a URL to include in the custom category and click Add. Repeat for each URL that you want to include.

  • To delete a URL from the list, click the delete icon under the Options column to the right of the URL you want to delete.

  • To import a list of URLs, click Import and select a text file to import. The file should contain one URL per line.

System Defined Categories

Go to Policies > Categories > System Defined Categories to view the current predefined categories.

These categories are updated from a central web categories database periodically, as specified in Updates > Category Definitions.

Web pages that promote, advocate, or sell alcohol including beer, wine and hard liquor.

Anonymizer

Web pages that promote proxies and anonymizers for surfing websites with the intent of circumventing filters.

Art

Theater, museums, exhibits, photography, and digital graphic resources.

Business/Services

General business.

Cars/Transportation

Vehicles, including selling, promoting or discussion.

Chat/IM

Communication through chat or IM services as well as sites with information about IM communication or chatrooms.

Community Sites

Newsgroup sites and posting, including forums and bulletin boards.

Compromised

Web pages that have been compromised by someone other than the site owner, which appears to be legitimate, but houses malicious code.

Computers and Technology

Sites with information about computers, software, hardware, peripherals and computer services.

Criminal Skills/Hacking

Activities that violate human rights including murder, sabotage, and bomb-building. Information about illegal manipulation of electronic devices, encryption, misuse, and fraud. Warez and other illegal software distribution.

Dating

Web pages that promote relationships such as dating and marriage.

Download Sites

Shareware, Freeware and other software. P2P sites and software.

Education

Educational institutions and schools. Educational and reference materials including dictionaries and encyclopedias.

Entertainment and Videos

Web sites for videos, TV and motion pictures including celebrity sites and entertainment news.

Finance

Bank and insurance companies and other financial institutions. Active trading of certificates and stocks.

Gambling

Web pages that promote gambling, lotteries, casinos and betting agencies involving chance.

Games

Web pages consisting of computer games, game producers and online gaming.

Government

Government organizations, departments, or agencies. Includes police, fire, and hospitals.

Hate Speech

Web pages that promote extreme right/left-wing groups, sexism, racism, religious hate and other discrimination.

Health

Personal health and medical services including sites with information on equipment ans procedures. Does not include drugs.

Home/Leisure

Sites with information about home improvement and decorating, family, gardening, and hobbies.

Humor

Web pages that include comics, jokes and other humorous content.

Illegal Drugs

Web pages that promote the use of information of common illegal drugs and the misuse of prescription drugs and compounds.

Job Search

Web pages devoted to job searches or agencies, career planning and human resources.

Mature

Sites not appropriate for children. Includes sites with content about alternative lifestyles and profanity.

Military

Web pages sponsored by the armed forces and government-controlled agencies.

Miscellaneous

Content Servers used to supply supplementary website content or web pages that do not fall into any other category.

Music

Web pages that include internet radio and streaming media, musicians, bands, MP3 and media downloads.

News

Web pages with general news information such as newspapers and magazines.

Non-profits

Clubs, communities, unions, and non-profit organizations.

Nudity

Web pages that display full or partial nudity with no sexual references or intent.

Online Ads

Web pages strictly devoted to advertising graphics, banners, or pop-up ad content.

Personal Webpages

Websites about or hosted by personal individuals. Communication through blogs and guestbook servers. Information on personal hobbies and activities.

Pharmacy

Web pages that include prescribed medications and information about approved drugs and their medical use.

Phishing/Fraud

Manipulated web pages and emails used for fraudulent purposes, also known as phishing.

Politics and Law

Sites that promote political parties and interest groups. Information on elections and legislation. Sites that offer legal information and advice.

Pornography/Sex

Explicit sexual content unsuitable for persons under the age of 18.

Portal Sites

General web pages with customized personal portals, including white/yellow pages.

Real Estate

Web pages possessing information about renting, purchasing, selling or financing real estate including homes, apartments, and office space.

Religion

Religious sites and information. Includes sects, cults, occultism and religious fundamentalism.

Restaurants

Food, dining and catering services including sites that provide reviews, advertisements or other promotions.

Search Engines

Web pages supporting the searching of the web, newsgroups, pictures, directories, and other online content.

Shopping

Online shops, catalogs and online ordering. Auction sites and advertising. Classified ads. Excludes shopping for products and services exclusively covered by another category such as health.

Social Networking

Social networking web pages and online communities built around communities of people where users "connect" to other users.

Spam

Products and web pages promoted through spam techniques.

Sports and Recreation

Sports teams, fan clubs and news. Recreation activities including zoos, public recreation centers, pools, and amusement parks.

Spyware and Malicious Sites

Sites or software that installs on a user's computer with the intent to collect information or make system changes without the user's consent.

Tobacco

Web pages promoting the use of tobacco-related products (cigarettes, cigars, pipes).

Translator

Web pages that translate languages from one to another.

Travel

Web pages that provide travel and tourism information, online booking or travel services such as airlines, car rentals, and hotels.

Violence

Web pages that promote questionable activities such as violence and militancy.

Weapons

Web pages that include guns and weapons when not used in a violent manner.

Web-based Email

Web pages that enable users to send and/or receive email through a web-accessible email account.

Updating Web Categories

Go to Updates > Category Definitions to view information about the category definitions currently loaded in your system.

Field

Description

Current revision:

Current revision number of the category definitions list.

Last Update:

Date and time when the category definitions list was last updated from the central web categories database.

Check for updates now:

Click Start to connect to the central categories database and check for updates to the category definitions list.

Prefetch Updates Automatically:

Click Enable to turn ON automatic downloading of updates from the central categories database (default: enabled). When enabled, the Frequency drop down list displays.

Click Disable to turn OFF automatic updates.

Frequency:

This field is visible if Prefetch Updates Automatically: is enabled. Select the frequency at which updates to the category definitions list are downloaded from the drop down menu - Every hour, Every day or Evey week (default: Every day).

Updates are downloaded at 1 minute past the hour for hourly updates, at 3:01 AM for daily updates, and at 3:01 AM every Saturday for weekly updates.
